CONNECTION

CURRICULUM

Whether it takes place on a sports team, over video games or tv shows, or through art or music - our interests and activities can be connection points with the people around us. This month, we are hearing from Mac and Hailey Potts. Their story shares how they found connection with each other through a mutual interest, music. As we focus on the relationships that come out of mutual interests and activities, our challenge to you is to think about the people in your circle of interests and activities. How can you intentionally connect with them? In what ways can you deepen that connection?

05.

We are Mac and Hailey Potts! We both grew up as musicians and music connected us. We ended up getting married and now we both do music full time. Mac is a blind recording artist and Hailey is a music teacher. We started a family with two kids (and one on the way), but we still love to connect with each other and others through music!

In this month’s video, you meet a couple that have found things in their life that make them feel connected. Spend some time talking with students about the things in their life that bring them joy, peace, or a feeling of connection. Encourage them to think about what would happen if they lost that thing and what they might do instead. Pay special attention to students who miss a sport or activity and offer them more support. Watch the video and continue the conversation.

Do the activity. Encourage students to find others with shared interests and provide them time to talk about what that activity means to them and how might they stay connected to it even if their circumstances or skills change. For example, if they are a soccer player and no longer play–could they coach, work for the team, or even better find something that provides them the same feeling as being on that team.
